What this episode is about

Discover how conscious sexuality can create deeper intimacy in midlife, when many couples think their best years are behind them.

Key takeaways

  • Gabriella says she and her husband now schedule intimacy like a dinner date with friends. It became the main event of their weekend, and the closeness carried into the rest of life.
  • Bibi Brzozka says long-time couples can stop trying to recreate how sex used to be. She invites them to build something new that can be deeper and last longer.
  • Bibi says to explore your own body first. When you know what feels good to you, it's much easier to start the conversation with your partner.

Explore your own body first

“Once you get to explore your own body, different types of touch, different types of stimulation, different types of orgasm with yourself, it is so much easier to initiate that conversation with your partner.”

Go inward and go slow

“We're going to go inwards, we're going to start feeling our body, we're going to start breathing in a more conscious way, and then we are going to slowly, slowly start stimulating our body.”

You can only invite a partner

“You cannot force your partner, you cannot manipulate them into it. You can only inspire, invite and support them in this.”

Show notes

Have you ever wondered if there’s a deeper level of intimacy waiting to be uncovered, one that transcends routine and opens the door to profound connection and self-discovery? Imagine stepping into a realm where intimacy becomes a transformative journey, not just a physical act but a pathway to deeper love, presence, and intentionality.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Bibi Brozozka, a renowned conscious sexuality coach, about how couples can use conscious lovemaking as a gateway to not only enhance their connection but to rediscover their own sensual and emotional landscapes.

I'm thrilled to share insights from my conversation with Bibi, who guides us into the transformative world of conscious sexuality.

What Conscious Sexuality Really Means

As Bibi beautifully explains, think of conscious sexuality like comparing fast food to a nourishing farm-to-table meal. Most of us experience what she calls "unconscious sex" - mechanical, goal-oriented encounters focused solely on physical release. Conscious sexuality brings awareness to every aspect of intimate connection.

"We're going beyond autopilot," Bibi shares. "We ask ourselves: What is the intention behind our lovemaking? What are our desires? Are we connecting just on a physical level, or also on emotional, energetic, and spiritual levels?"

Key Elements of Conscious Love Making:

  • Present moment awareness
  • Clear intentions
  • Deep emotional connection
  • Sacred space creation
  • Focus on the journey, not the destination
  • Integration of breath and energy

Why Midlife is the Perfect Time for Sexual Awakening

Contrary to common beliefs, midlife offers unique opportunities for deeper intimacy. With children older or out of the house, we have more space and time. More importantly, we know ourselves better.

As Bibi notes: "We are in a different stage in life where we are usually more mature, less worried about what other people think, and more attuned to what we really want."

Rather than trying to recreate the passionate intensity of youth, conscious sexuality invites us to create something new - deeper, more sustainable, and profoundly connecting.

Starting Your Journey with Self-Pleasure

Before bringing conscious sexuality into partnership, Bibi recommends starting with self-exploration. "It's like two guitar players coming together for a concert," she explains. "If they've never practiced their instrument individually, what kind of concert will that be?"

Self-Pleasure Practice Guidelines:

  • Create a sacred, intentional space
  • Start with conscious breathing
  • Move slowly and mindfully
  • Notice different levels of arousal
  • Stay present with sensations
  • Release goal-orientation
  • Allow energy to flow naturally

Making Time for Sacred Connection

One common concern I hear is: "I don't have time for this." Yet as Bibi points out, we make time for social media, Netflix, and dinner with friends. It's about priorities.

Tips for Prioritizing Intimate Time:

  • Create a shared relationship vision
  • Schedule sacred time like any important appointment
  • Start with small windows of connection
  • Turn off phones and other distractions
  • Consider it essential self-care
  • Make it a non-negotiable priority

The Beautiful Results of Conscious Practice

The benefits extend far beyond the bedroom. In my own experience, this practice has created deeper presence, vulnerability, and love in all aspects of our relationship. As one of Bibi's clients beautifully put it: "We're not back - we're forward. Love making is better than it ever was."

Changes You Might Experience:

  • Deeper emotional intimacy
  • Enhanced physical pleasure
  • Greater relationship satisfaction
  • Increased overall vitality
  • More confidence and self-awareness
  • Spiritual connection and growth
